On the corner of W 1st, St and Cloverdale Ave at 101 Eden Terrace in Winston-Salem is the landmark, The Grecian Corner. Established in 1970, this cozy little restaurant has since become a staple in Winston-Salem, and truly has something for everyone, serving a full menu of authentic Greek, American, and Italian favorites.

Conveniently located near the Brenner Children’s Hospital, this landmark has proven it’s excellence by being open for over 45 years. In 2002, the owner and founder of The Grecian Corner, George Ballas, gave his nephew the opportunity to become a part of Winston-Salem’s finest. Angelo and Georgia Ballas are now the owners of this wonderful restaurant and the regulars will tell you, the quality and service remain top-tier.

If you look up the landmark’s hundreds of Google and Facebook reviews, you’ll see most everyone can agree they return time and time again for the excellent service, consistently delicious food, and fair prices. Many of George’s returning customers will recommend the authentic chicken souvlaki wrap on pita bread, crafted with all-natural, grilled and marinated chicken and served with onion, tomato, mixed peppers, and his own tzatziki sauce recipe. Additionally, any of the Grecian Specialty Platters of chicken, pork, or veggie are popular choices as well.

However, if Greek isn’t your forte, take your pick of over 10 different top-notch pasta variations, salads, soups, sandwiches including burgers, hot dogs, hoagies, turkey and ham, and even a rueben sandwich. Choose from a wide variety of unique appetizers including the popular greek nachos, dolmades, homemade zucchini patties, classic onion rings, and even cheesy bacon fries with ranch, for those of you who can’t turn down that deliciously classic American food.

If I haven’t convinced you The Grecian Corner has a comprehensive menu of diverse and flavorsome foods, I’m not done yet. They’ve got pizza, too. With and without a greek twist, both George and Angelo can tell you there is something on this menu made just for you. Last but not least, we don’t forget about the kiddos. At the fine price of $4.99, your child under 12 can choose from a hot dog, cheeseburger, chicken fingers, spaghetti with meat sauce, or a cheese pita, all served with a drink and french fries or apple sauce.

The Grecian Corner also serves both beer and wine, and a variety of authentic desserts including baklava, loukoumades, and baklava cheesecake, to truly complete your dining experience. As if this wonderfully quaint restaurant doesn’t provide enough, you have the option for George’s Grecian Corner to cater for any occasion with 15 or more people. They offer two different catering options, however, if you have a special request, Angelo and Georgia will do their best to accommodate you.

Stop by George’s Grecian Corner for an exceptional dining experience, both to do with the outstanding staff that takes pride in their work, and the food that is so carefully crafted. With almost 50 years in business, this restaurant speaks for itself.

Located in the heart of Winston-Salem at 408 West 4th Street is Bull’s Tavern, a well-known watering hole for locals and travelers alike. The reason being is simple: live music, great drinks, and even better service.

Come as you are, as long as you’re at least 21. This isn’t some cookie-cutter bar, the owner’s and staff’s personalities come through just by looking around. There’s plenty of characters within, and you might even learn a thing or two from them. Enjoy plenty of conversation with the bartender, whether it be about their extensive drink menu or your own life problems. Either way, you’ll feel a part of the Bull’s family from then on out, and a good time is always encouraged.

Moonlighting as a music venue, Bull’s Tavern has been packing in more than 100 shows per year from comedians to reggae, funk, and jam acts at three nights a week. On a liquid diet? On Sundays, they open at 2 pm for the best bloody marys and mimosas in the area.

This must-see casual bar opened its doors in 2012 and has the best patio view on 4th street to watch the downtown hustle of Winston-Salem at all times. Since established in 2012 they’ve built an impressive rotating craft beer selection, including local North Carolina’s top micro-brew selections as well as some out of state options to keep things interesting. More of a whiskey drinker? Fantastic, it’s their passion. Bull’s Tavern has its own ‘whiskey guru’ that has been known to drop some knowledge on anyone who has questions, as well as drop some flavor on those who also love some honest, neat whiskey.

So get off your smartphone and come down to your new favorite local pub, Bull’s Tavern and talk to each other. For those of you with soul, sing your heart out during karaoke. For those of you with rhythm, dance the night away to rock and roll, some funk, or maybe some southern country. For those of you looking for a great time with a great drink, welcome home.

At a total of three separate but equally awesome locations, Downtown Brewpub, Footnote, and a Tasting Room, Foothills Brewing is one of those breweries you just have to experience yourself. As if breweries weren’t innovative enough, Foothills found a way to appeal to the masses with something for everyone with a unique and inviting atmosphere at each location.

The Downtown Brewpub is the perfect mixture of live, top-talent music, an extensive list of craft beers on tap, and a deliciously creative health-conscious menu. Enjoy a wide range of music from weekly jazz on Sundays to varying live bands every Saturday, there’s sure to be something for everyone. If this hasn’t sold you, assemble your team of trivia players for trivia night every Tuesday from 8:00 to 10:00 pm.

At one of the most versatile event spaces in Winston-Salem, Footnote hosts your own creative event, flawlessly. Open 7 days a week, you have the pleasure of enjoying house-roasted coffee and freshly baked pastries every morning, and signature cocktails, wine, craft beer, and small plates later on in the day. Whether you’re wanting to host an epic party or you’re simply enjoying the aesthetics, it’s time well spent.

Take a tour at the Tasting Room by Foothills Brewing. If they brew it - it’ll be here along with games, TVs, bar snacks, the occasional food truck and lots of outdoor seating. This venue is a great option for a private party, from an intimate get-together to an all-out block party. Every Friday is live music and every Saturday the Tasting Room hosts yoga, brewery tours, and has a food truck that changes from week to week. If Foothills Brewing doesn’t sound fun to you, I don’t know what would.

Each of these locations checks all the boxes a brewery should and then goes above and beyond with variety in all aspects. Bring your dogs, bring your friends, and try something new at Foothills Brewing.

In the great words of the Foothills Brewing crew, the secret to happiness is “do what you can, let the rest go, and have a beer.”
